Dancer receiving maintenance care for the neck from Toronto Chiropractor.

Dance Maintenance Care.

Dance demands a lot of our bodies. It is quite normal to have your limits pushed in terms of range of motion, endurance, power, and agility during dance class or rehearsal. Receiving regular maintenance allows you to continually push yourself and your potential.

Preventing injuries is a part of maintenance care. Often small seemingly insignificant injuries in dancers quickly turn into painful setbacks. During a maintenance care visit, small discrepancies and physical exam findings are treated to ensure they do not worsen or develop into a chronic condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is maintenance care different than injury management?

During an appointment focused on an injury, we spend more time on one area of your body. During a maintenance care appointment, you may find we are working on various muscles, joints, and nerves throughout your body. During a maintenance care we are looking for early signs of fatigue, overuse, and sprain or strain. By treating early issues with both active and passive care you are improving your overall prognosis.

How often do I need maintenance care?

Maintenance care is often likened to an oil change for a car. This may sound funny, but every body is unique in how many ‘miles’ it can go before needing a tune up. Dancers are putting their body through a lot of extremes. These extremes can vary dancer to dancer, show to show. By tapering off treatments, pushing treatments further and further a part, eventually each patient finds their right frequency of visits to maintain their dancing to its fullest potential.

Can I increase my maintenance care during competition season or when I’m doing a physically demanding show?

You may find that added performances to your training schedule like competitions or Opening Night week pushing you physically. During these busy times, we are also pushed to our limits mentally. With the psycho-social factor playing such an important role in pain and function, you may find getting in an extra visit with your RMT or Chiropractor that little bit of support to keep you going to that next day off.

I like my maintenance care appointments to be heavier on rehab, is that a possibility?

Yes! As always, every visit to Made To Move is tailored for you, always with your input! You will be presented with both passive and active options during your visit and encourage to partake in both. If you find that doing more rehabilitation exercises therapy during your visit keeps you balanced and healthy, then that will be our focus. Exercise is therapeutic and often offers increased balance, and decrease in pain.

Am I allowed to come in for a maintenance appointment even if I’m not experiencing any major pain?

Pain does not always have to be your motivator to book an appointment at Made To Move. Many patients book in for the stress relief (mental health), for new and exciting ways to stay active and improve their fitness, to improve performance or master a certain technical or athletic skill, or just as a part of their overall self care routine. If you’re not sure how we can work together, but you have some thoughts or questions, book in for a FREE meet and greet so we can chat and get those questions answered!
